Leveraging AI and Technology for Global Oral Health Collaborations
Featuring our Director of Programs and Co-Founder Dr. Jessica Klabak and the CEO of Oral Genome Dr Tina Saw as speaker panelists with hosting and moderating by Dr. Sujay Mehta, our Director of Global Health Education. The session will delve into AI-driven diagnostics, teledentistry, and smart devices that extend the reach of dental care beyond traditional clinical settings. Panelists will highlight success stories and quantifiable impacts on oral health outcomes across diverse communities. Additionally, the discussion will address critical challenges in the field, including creating and maintaining equitable datasets, potential biases in AI-based disease detection across different demographics, and strategies to ensure technological advancements benefit all populations equally. By examining both the promises and pitfalls of AI and technology in oral health, this panel aims to provide valuable insights into navigating the new frontiers of global health leadership and policy. American Public Health Association annual meeting
Solidarity Dental Foundation will be attending the APHA annual meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the end of October 2024. Dr. Gudsoorkar will be presenting based on her work in Tanzania, Dr. Klabak will present her research from Ecuador, Dr. Mehta will present on advocacy challenges for noma as well as misinformation regarding musculoskeletal facial pains (temporomandibular disorders). We are also proud to feature Dr. Manresa-Cumarin’s work with Solidarity at APHA.

Setting the Global Oral Health Agenda: Research, Policy & Beyond
AcademyHealth’s Oral Health Interest Group (OHIG) presented "Setting the Global Oral Health Agenda: Research, Policy & Beyond” at the 2024 ARM. This session emphasized the critical need to integrate oral health into broader health systems, especially post-pandemic, which disrupted dental services and research. The goal of this initiative was to encourage collaborations with oral health and to revive the OHIG, ensuring that oral health and systems research receive the necessary resources to improve health services research and foster discussions with other Interest Groups.

Johns Hopkins Global Oral Health Symposium
The Inaugural Global Oral Health Symposium gathers experts from medicine, public health, dentistry, economics and political science representing academic centers from Johns Hopkins University, Harvard University, University of Maryland, New York University, Seoul National University as well as the World Health Organization and NGOs Solidarity Dental Foundation and Zero Noma Initiative to increase awareness about oral health, the importance of integrating the mouth to whole body health and systemic disease, global inequities regarding access to care, current WHO recommendations, as well as recognition of noma, the "face of poverty", as a neglected tropical disease.
